Father's Day

June 16th, 2013

As we are expecting this Father's Day I wanted to do a little something fun for Paul before he had to go to work for the remainder of the day so I put together a Daddy Diaper Changing Kit.

Kit includes: gloves, mask, goggles and tongs because those diapers are messy and stinky. A diaper, wipes, butt paste, binky and a towel for the actual diaper changing. Daddy-proof onsie (which labels what body part goes in each hole) for the adorable Hutchkin to wear once the process has been completed. A tool box, what else would any proper man keep his diaper changing kit in.

The Last Peek

June 15, 2013

The day before Father's Day we went in for our last peek at the little one before its arrival, which made me a bit sad. We got to see and hear the heartbeat and the Hutchkin did quite a bit of hand waving at times making it hard to get clear photos. This little one really likes doing the back stroke and having its hands up near its face.

See you soon little one.

Tapping the Veins

May 24, 2013

After drinking the gross orange liquid for my glucose tolerance test I started feeling nauseous pretty immediately. I worried that this meant I was not tolerating it and would not pass the test as last time I did not feel sick at all. I waited about 30 minutes and then headed over to the lab to get my blood drawn, so thankful that Dr. Y doesn't make you drink it at the lab and then sit around for a whole hour. Got to the lab and had my blood drawn for the testing to take place.

Results:
WBC's - 9.7 -  normal range 4.0-11.0
RBC - 4.17 - normal range 4.20-5.40
HGB - 12.1 - normal range 12.0-16.0
HCT - 37.0 - normal range 37.0-47.0
MCV - 88.7 -  normal range 81.0-99.0
MCH - 29.0 -  normal range 27.0-35.0
MCHC - 32.7 - normal range 32.0-37.0
RDW - 14.1-  normal range 11.5-14.5
Platelets - 209 - normal range 130-400
1 hour glucose test - 100 - normal range 70-130

My blood sugar is looking great!
No 3 hour test for me!
I PASSED!!!

Kick Puncher

May 17, 2013

Exciting News:

Paul got to feel the baby moving!

"I got to feel baby trying to kick or punch its way out for the first time tonight. A little more muscle and we may have an "Alien" situation on our hands here."

Check-up

May 17th, 2013

23 weeks 5 days and time for a check-up appointment with Dr. Y, I had my weight, BP, pulse and temperature all checked. Then Dr. Y measured my uterine growth and checked the baby's heart-rate. Everything checked out good and in normal range. Then he gave me the gross glucose drink as in the next week or so I need to come in for that testing.

Mothers Day

 May 12, 2013

I wanted to do something a little different for my mom this year other than the traditional flowers and Mexican food for lunch. I surprised her by setting up a 3D ultrasound not far from where we live. I told her I needed to make a stop before taking her to lunch. Once we arrived she was super excited about the ultrasound. I never knew this but she never had an ultrasound with me, and had never seen one let alone a 3D ultrasound. It was quite the experience, she loved it. The little Hutchkin kept putting its hands and arms up to its face, she got to see what appeared to be a yawn like motion and the hiccups. As parting gifts she got some prints, a video and a button with the littles face on it. I am truly thankful that we were able to share this experience together, it was a day I won't forget.

Classes

Kaiser offers a number of different classes on topics such as: Having a Healthy Pregnancy, Labor & Delivery, Baby Care Basics, Lamaze and Breastfeeding. As I mentioned in my last post since this may be our one and only Hutchkin I want to take full advantage of all the different experiences we can take part in, no matter how cheesy it may be. So we are signed up for the majority of the classes listed above which will take place during July and August. Oh back to school....

What's in a Name?

You may think me crazy but I 'read' through one of those 100,000 baby name books. Here is my defense, I did not want to leave any stone un-turned (any name not given some consideration) AND this may be our only pregnancy, our only child. We do not know what our complete family looks like yet but as this could be it so I wanted to truly delve into things.
Paul and I both wrote down any name that we liked, even just a little for the first round. We then looked back through our lists and removed any names we didn't have a strong positive feeling towards. Finally we ranked our lists and compared our top 10 contenders. For boys we both ended up with the same name in the #1 slot! For girls my #1 was his #3 and there were no others in the top 3 that were the same so that is what we went with.

Middle names will be family names so we were set there.

And well, the last name is a given.

We sat with those names, mulled them over, lived with them as if they were final and after a couple weeks we both still felt that those were the names.

So as of hitting the half-way mark in this pregnancy we were settled on names for the Hutchkin.

The gender along with the name will be announced after it is born, so don't bother asking.  :)

Half-Baked

In 'celebration' of hitting 20 weeks on April 20 we headed out to Baby's R Us and Target in order to begin our registries. It didn't take long to be overwhelmed by the options of stuff. So we figured we would scan items we were interested in (different brands, colors, styles of the same item) and then we would be able to do our research once we got home and pick which item was the best fit for us, the safest, the best rated etc. Of course all of that research did not happen until much, much later (like this week!) but we had good intentions. This outing of creating a registry was a significant milestone for us,  the half way point, that this could be our reality in a few more months.

Odd, Cool or Gross?

...you decide...
